Wenjun Chen

I'm a PhD candidate in the Neuropragmatics and Emotion Lab, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University, supervised by Dr. Marc Pell, Distinguished James McGill Professor.

Previously, I earned my Master's in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Psycholinguistics & Neurolinguistics) from Shanghai International Studies University, supervised by Prof. Xiaoming Jiang, in the Centre for Research in Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics led by Prof. Xiaolin Zhou. Prior to that, I obtained my BA in Business English (Linguistics specialisation) from Heilongjiang University.

I'm broadly interested in speech perception. My current work focuses on the perception of AI voices, where I explore speaker identity (who is talking) at the level of fine-grained perception, attitudes toward advice given by AI versus human speakers, and how modality (e.g., prosody) influences both perceptual outcomes and online processing.

I use behavioural and neurological evidence to advance knowledge in this area. Beyond traditional univariate modelling, I'm interested in Bayesian and machine learning approaches to statistical analysis, and in applying machine learning to large-scale education datasets.

When I'm not working, I spend quality time with my family.
